Below, each administrative region (state, province, territory, etc.) of eight countries—China, India, the United States, Indonesia, Brazil, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Canada—is given a bar whose width corresponds to its population. The bars are also tinted such that bars with about the same area (to a factor of two) have the same color, lighter for larger regions.
